Best Colleges in Barishal — the Class XI Admission List
বাংলায় পড়তে চাও? দেখো: বরিশালের সেরা কলেজ — একাদশ শ্রেণিতে ভর্তির তালিকা
The first difficulty students hit when applying in Barishal is not a rule — it is a name. The city has several government colleges whose names sound close to one another, and adding the wrong institution to a list while searching the portal is genuinely common here.
The second reality is geography. A large part of Barishal district is river-bound — a daily commute from upazilas like Hijla, Muladi or Mehendiganj is not realistic. So the choice of college here usually has to be made together with the decision about where you will live, not separately from it.
Third, the district roster is comparatively small. There are over a hundred colleges, but the number of strong institutions inside the city is limited, and the whole division’s better results look towards them. Fewer options means less room to get the order of your list wrong.
The list — best colleges in Barishal
| College | Why it is here | Key fact |
|---|---|---|
| Govt. Brojomohun (B M) College | Barishal’s oldest and best-known college, with a large intake in all three streams. | Central online application · EIIN 100875 |
| Barisal Govt. College | A completely separate institution from B M College — the similar names cause constant confusion. | Central online application · EIIN 100867 |
| Barisal Government Women’s College | The city’s principal government college for girls, admitting into all three streams. | Central online application · EIIN 100877 |
| Government Syed Hatem Ali College, Barisal | Less contested than the top two while offering every advantage of a government college. | Central online application · EIIN 100876 |
| Alekanda Govt. College | Inside the city and easy to reach — worth carrying on a list as a safer choice. | Central online application · EIIN 132618 |
| Barishal Cantonment Public School and College | Cantonment-run, known for discipline and results, and with rules of its own. | Central online application · EIIN 138998 |
| Barisal Commerce College | Devoted to business studies — worth considering if you want the commerce stream. | Central online application · EIIN 139588 |
How to use this list
When you add a college on the portal, do not stop at the name — match the EIIN. Wrong institutions end up on lists in Barishal every year because of the similar names, and it cannot be undone once the fee is paid and the form submitted. That is exactly why every row on this page carries an EIIN.
If you are coming from a riverine upazila, settle accommodation before you apply. Launch and ferry timings shift in the monsoon and cannot be matched to class hours every day. Without somewhere to stay in the city, putting a good college from your own upazila high on the list is the more realistic plan.
When you pick a shift, think about the journey home and not only the journey in. A day shift finishes late in the afternoon, and on many rural routes the last transport leaves before that — a morning trip can be easy while the evening one leaves you stranded.

Frequently asked questions
No — two entirely separate institutions with different EIINs and different campuses. The similarity of the names trips people up, and the application form will not catch the error. Matching the EIIN before you add a college is the only reliable check.
The final step of admission has to be done in person, and the river crossings make that day hard for many students here. The window runs over several days, so plan on going near its start rather than trusting the last one — if weather stops the launches you will still have time in hand.
The city has an institution dedicated to business studies, and the main government colleges run commerce sections too. A list can carry both kinds — one subject-focused, the other inside a general college.
Six in all: Barishal, Bhola, Patuakhali, Pirojpur, Barguna and Jhalokati. It is one of the smaller boards by area, and nearly all of that area is delta — which makes the arithmetic of getting anywhere different here than under other boards.
