Paying for the Application — the Methods, and What Goes Wrong

The smallest step in the application causes the most panic. The debit SMS has arrived but the portal still shows the application as incomplete — no single situation generates more questions during the season.

In almost every case it is temporary and fixable, provided you know what to do and, just as importantly, what not to do.

How the payment is made

The application fee is paid online only — there is no counter at a college or a bank that takes cash for it. The portal hands you over to one of the mobile financial services, you complete the transaction with your PIN, and it returns you to the application.

In the 2026-27 session the cost comes in two parts: BDT 220 when you apply, and the board’s BDT 340 when you confirm after appearing on the merit list (which includes BDT 142 registration and BDT 50 sports). Both are confirmed for this cycle. In phase 2, a phase-1 applicant who was selected nowhere pays no application fee — though the confirmation payment still applies if they are selected.

• The biggest mistake is leaving the portal and sending money to a number yourself. Payments made that way never attach to the application.
• Check the balance first, and keep a little more than the fee — some services add a charge on top.
• Save the transaction ID. If anything goes wrong it is the only reference you will have.

Money gone, application incomplete — what then

The most damaging reaction here is to pay again immediately. In most cases the transaction did succeed and the portal is simply slow to register it.

1. Wait a while, then log out of the portal and back in, and look at the application status.
2. Confirm in the mobile banking app that the transaction shows as successful, and write down its ID.
3. If it is still incomplete, contact the admission portal’s helpline with the transaction ID, your roll and your registration number ready.
4. Before paying a second time, be certain the first actually failed — otherwise both can be debited.

This problem is commonest on the closing day, which is exactly when there is least time to resolve it — the strongest single reason to finish a day early.

The admission fee is not the application fee

These are two entirely separate costs and confusing them is common. The application fee goes to the board’s central process; it is small and the same for everyone. The admission fee is the college’s own, much larger, and different at every college.

The admission fee is paid after selection, when you complete admission at the college. The gap between government and non-government colleges is wide, so it is worth reading a college’s notice for the likely cost while you are still building your list.

The government capped it this year (Prothom Alo, 25 August 2026): BDT 5,000 at MPO colleges in the Dhaka metropolitan area, and at non-MPO colleges there BDT 7,500 for the Bangla version and BDT 8,500 for the English version, the highest cap of all. The lowest cap, BDT 1,500, applies to MPO colleges in upazilas and rural areas. A college may charge less than its cap but not more; its own notice gives the exact figure.
