MIST, the Military Institute of Science and Technology, is an engineering and technology institute run under the administration of the Bangladesh Armed Forces at Mirpur Cantonment in Dhaka. Civilian students join through its own admission test — for engineering, architecture and, since 2026, two science programmes.
For students looking for an engineering place in Dhaka beyond BUET, MIST is often next on the list. The 2026-27 tests fall on 18–19 December 2026, about four weeks ahead of BUET’s, so one stretch of revision can serve both.
The three admission units
Unit C is the newest; its first test ran on 31 January 2026. It opened MIST beyond engineering into pure science, with an entry bar gentler than Unit A’s.

The admission rules in short
Dates, fees and the detailed mark split live on the 2026-27 page; this profile keeps to the structure, which tends to hold from year to year.
- Engineering and Architecture: SSC GPA 4.0 excluding the fourth subject, and 18 HSC points across maths, physics, chemistry and English with at least 4.0 in each science subject (last cycle’s circular).
- Science unit: GPA 3.50 in each of SSC and HSC.
- Repeat candidates may sit, but lose 5% of what they score.
- Qualifying needs 40% of 200 in Unit A and 32 of 80 in Unit C.
MIST or another specialised university?
A single HSC science candidate can sit several specialised institutes across December and January: the Aviation and Aerospace University on 5 December, MIST on 18–19 December and BUET on 16 January 2027. If ships, the sea or ports interest you, look at Bangladesh Maritime University too — it offers naval architecture among five programmes, and the whole degree costs under Tk 100,000.
Mathematics carries the heaviest weight in MIST’s Unit A (80 marks), and preparing for it overlaps a great deal with BUET’s written paper. That makes MIST a natural second option for a BUET aspirant, and a student who draws well can consider architecture at both.
