Dhaka Central University Science Unit: Three in Four Failed Last Cycle

Dhaka Central University’s Science unit has the most seats — 4,795 in 2025-26 — and also the most failures. Of the 24,304 who sat the 17 July 2026 test, only 6,013 passed: a fail rate of 75.26%. No 2026-27 date has been announced.
So although there were only about six or seven applicants per seat, the pass threshold was the real barrier. With 6,013 passes for 4,795 places, clearing it put a seat within reach — the hard part is clearing it.

Dainik Shiksha’s present and absent figures add to 29,035, not the 31,553 who applied. The report does not explain the gap of about 2,500 (unpaid applications are one possibility). The figures are given as published.
Subjects and the paper
According to DCU’s website, the paper drew 25 marks each from physics, chemistry, maths and biology, with Bangla or English options in places. We could not match that layout against any news report, so treat it as unverified. The pass rule was common to all units: 40 overall and at least 5 in the part linked to your chosen subject — the maths part for the mathematics department.

Why so many failed — and how not to
In the first cycle many candidates assumed the seven colleges were an easy entry. Clearing 40 in a one-hour, four-subject paper with 0.25 deducted per error is not easy, least of all for anyone who stopped studying after HSC. Aim to secure 10 to 12 marks in every subject, and cut down on guesses.
Scoring under 5 in the part linked to your target department loses you that department, so if you want statistics or mathematics, never leave the maths part thin.
