MIST Unit A Admission 2026-27: Engineering Test on 19 December

The Military Institute of Science and Technology’s engineering admission test — Unit A — is on 19 December 2026 for the 2026-27 session, the same day as Unit B for architecture (Ajker Patrika, 21 August 2026). Application dates, the fee and eligibility are not out yet. In 2025-26 the test ran for three hours on 27 December 2025, from 10 AM to 1 PM.

News coverage of 2025-26 eligibility named an SSC GPA of 4.0 and minimum HSC grades in maths, physics and chemistry. Admission guides fill in the detail — at least 18 grade points across maths, physics, chemistry and English, none of them below 4.0 — but we could not confirm that in the official circular. Second-time candidates lose 5% of their score.

Marks: 2024-25 against 2025-26

If the guides are right, the balance has shifted: ten marks each moved out of maths and physics into chemistry and English, doubling English’s weight. Maths alone is still 40% of the total, so the rank in Unit A is still settled in maths. The guides also give the merit formula as test 60% + SSC 20% + HSC 20% — another figure to check against the circular.

Who can sit Unit A

Five percent sounds small, but on a 200-mark paper it can be ten marks — several hundred places in the crowded middle of the merit list. If you are sitting again, set your target score with that handicap in mind.

• Science stream; SSC GPA 4.0 (reported in the news, 2025-26).
• Minimum HSC grades in maths, physics and chemistry — by the guides’ account, 18 grade points across four subjects including English, none under 4.0.
• Pass years per the guides: SSC 2022–23, HSC 2024–25.
• A 5% deduction for second-timers — verified for 2024-25 in Prothom Alo and repeated by the guides for 2025-26.

Where Unit A leads

Unit A is the entry point to MIST’s undergraduate engineering programmes; departments are allotted by merit rank against your own order of preference. This page does not print seats per department — the published counts disagree with one another, and we do not state figures we could not verify. The department list and seat matrix are in the circular on the MIST admission portal.

Last cycle’s competition and calendar pressure

MIST has not released applicant totals in a form we could verify, so there is no applicants-per-seat figure here. What is certain: the 2025-26 application window lasted 25 days (2–26 November) and the test fell on 27 December, in the middle of Dhaka University’s admission season.

For 2026-27 the date moves up to 19 December, while CUET’s tentative test is on 23 January 2027. MIST therefore sits early in the engineering calendar; a good result here lets you walk into the later tests with far less pressure.

Preparing for Unit A with maths at the centre

1. Maths (80): calculus, vectors, complex numbers and coordinate geometry — a three-hour paper leaves room for long problems, so keep practising full worked solutions.
2. Physics (60): mechanics, electricity and magnetism, modern physics — build speed in applying formulae.
3. Chemistry (40): too heavy now to skim; organic reactions and quantitative chemistry first.
4. English (20): its weight has doubled — grammar and vocabulary three days a week.
5. If you also sit Unit C on 18 December, rehearse two exams on consecutive days with back-to-back mocks.
