BMU FET Unit Admission 2026-27: Naval Architecture and Offshore Engineering

Bangladesh Maritime University’s Faculty of Engineering and Technology (FET) admits to exactly one programme — the BSc in Naval Architecture and Offshore Engineering, with 40 seats in 2025-26. No 2026-27 circular had been issued by 26 September 2026. Last time the test sat on 31 January 2026 from 3:00 to 4:30 PM: 100 marks, twenty apiece in English, maths, physics, chemistry and ICT.

You need to be a science student with GPA 4.00 in SSC and HSC individually, and to clear a subject-grade rule. For anyone drawn to designing ships, floating structures and offshore platforms, few public institutions teach this field at all — so the seat count is small but the target is clear.

How the FET paper is marked

Two things stand out against the usual engineering admission pattern. There is no written part — it is MCQ throughout. And ICT is a full fifth of the paper, weighted the same as maths or physics, although many engineering tests leave it out entirely. For students who shelved HSC ICT as an easy subject, this is the cheapest twenty marks available.

Eligibility (2025-26)

Note that, unlike FEOS, biology is not on the list where the two A grades may come from — both must come from those four subjects. A student strong in biology but weaker in physics and chemistry could qualify for FEOS and still miss FET.

• Science stream; SSC 2022/2023 and HSC 2024/2025 — the HSC 2024 year meant repeat candidates were eligible.
• GPA 4.00 in each of SSC and HSC.
• In HSC, an "A" in any two of English, physics, chemistry and maths, and no less than "B" in every other subject.
• O-level: five subjects including maths, physics and chemistry. A-level: at least three, including maths, chemistry and physics.

Programme, seats and cost (2025-26)

At 160 credits this is the heaviest course load of BMU’s four faculties, so expect a steady run of labs and design courses. Even so, the whole eight semesters cost under Tk 100,000 on the 2025-26 structure.

Competition: 340 ranks called for 40 seats

For 2025-26 FET called ranks 1 to 340 to pre-register — eight and a half per seat, the deepest reach of the four faculties. The likely reason is that many high rankers take places at other engineering universities, pushing BMU further down its list. CUET tested on 17 January 2026 and BMU’s FET two weeks later, so plenty of candidates sat here already knowing their CUET outcome.

Faculty-level applicant counts are not published; the most recent overall figure is about 18,000 applications for 200 seats in 2024-25.

A preparation plan for FET

1. ICT: number systems and Boolean algebra, logic gates, predicting C program output, HTML and databases — MCQs chapter by chapter from the HSC book.
2. Physics: buoyancy, fluid pressure, statics and vectors — the foundations of ship design, and regulars in the question set.
3. Maths: quick calculus and vector work, practised on a listed Casio such as the fx-991ES.
4. Chemistry and English: twenty MCQs of each daily, so neither goes untouched for a week.
5. At least one mixed five-subject, ninety-minute mock each week, marked with the 0.25 deduction.
