SUST B Unit Admission 2026-27: 581 Seats Across Three Streams

SUST’s B unit is the one test where science, humanities and commerce students compete side by side, each answering a paper built for their own stream. For 2026-27 it falls on 26 or 27 January 2027 (Ittefaq), the day not yet fixed. In 2025-26 it covered 581 seats in nine departments, every department holding a separate quota for each stream.

In 2025-26 you needed a combined SSC and HSC GPA of 6.0 with at least 3.0 in each. The test sat on 14 January 2026 from 3:00 to 4:30 PM — eighty MCQs — and the fee was Tk 1,200. There were 22,272 applications, roughly 38 for every seat.

B unit marks: two papers, depending on stream

For humanities and commerce, 65 of the 80 marks are a shared compulsory block; the streams differ only in the last fifteen. That means a humanities student cannot skip the fifteen marks of secondary-level general maths. The science version cuts Bangla to ten but puts 45 marks on its three science subjects.

The prospectus is silent on negative marking and a pass mark, and we claim nothing either way. The merit score adds twenty GPA marks to the eighty from the test.

Who qualifies, and how GPA counts

For 2025-26 students from all three streams with HSC in 2024 or 2025 and SSC in 2022 or 2023 qualified — a 6.0 GPA total with 3.0 in each exam. That is below the A unit’s 6.5, so this is where SUST’s door is widest for students with middling results.

Repeat candidates carry a quiet handicap: an HSC 2024 GPA total is converted at ×1.6, so they can earn at most 16 of the 20 GPA marks. Read the 2025 batch’s conversion in the prospectus itself; our source summary leaves it unclear.

Nine departments, seats by stream (2025-26)

Read the table and a strategy emerges. Of commerce’s 82 places, 35 are in Business Administration and the rest are five or six per department. Humanities students find their largest quotas in Bangla (49) and in Political Studies and Public Administration (40 each). Science students get 40 seats in Economics — a genuine alternative alongside the A unit.

Competition and test centres

The B unit received 22,272 applications for 581 seats in 2025-26 — around 38 per seat, below the A unit’s roughly 54. The average hides a lot, though: each department’s quotas are separate, so for commerce students the departments offering five or six places can be far tighter than the headline ratio. Centres were in Sylhet and Dhaka.

Preparation by stream

1. Humanities: fifteen marks of Bangla — grammar plus authors and works; and redo class 9–10 arithmetic and algebra for general maths, since that is where most fall behind.
2. Commerce: accounting and business fundamentals for the own-stream fifteen; if BBA is the goal, every mark counts because that is where commerce seats are concentrated.
3. Science: the 45 marks of physics, chemistry and maths or biology are already covered by A unit preparation; put the extra time into Bangla and international affairs.
4. Everyone: Bangladesh and international affairs (10) — constitution, Liberation War, international bodies, current events; and for humanities/commerce, ICT (10) from the HSC book’s definitions.
