BUET Admission 2026-27: Test Date, Eligibility, Application Fee and Seats

Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET) will hold its 2026-27 undergraduate admission test on 16 January 2027. That date is the only thing announced so far, on 7 September 2026 — the application window, fee, seats and whether a pre-selection round returns are all still unannounced.

Last cycle (2025-26) BUET dropped the preliminary test and shortlisted roughly 10,000 candidates on their HSC marks in higher maths, physics and chemistry, who then sat a single written test on 10 January 2026. There were 1,309 seats. The eligibility and timeline below come from that cycle and may change in this year’s circular.

Who could apply (2025-26)

BUET sets one of the strictest bars in the country: an overall HSC GPA of 5 is not enough on its own — higher maths, physics and chemistry must each be a 5. Fall short of a 5 in any one of the three and the application fails, whatever the overall figure.

⚠️ Reports disagree on the pass years. The Daily Campus says both HSC 2024 and 2025 candidates qualified, while several admission-listing sites say "HSC 2025 only". If you plan a second attempt, read that line of this year’s circular before anything else.

The shortlist: how the 10,000 are picked

In 2025-26 applicants were ranked on their combined HSC marks in higher maths, physics and chemistry, and the top 10,000 were called; keeping everyone tied at the cut-off took the list to 10,351. Of those, 9,051 sat the test — 87.44%.

So a GPA 5 alone does not guarantee a place on the list — the raw marks in those three subjects decide it. Once you have your board mark sheet, add up the three to judge where you stand, although no reliable source for last year’s cut-off mark could be found.

The cycle before (2024-25) worked differently: a pre-selection test on 23 January 2025 and then the main test on 13 February. Two methods in two years means nobody can say which one 2026-27 will use until the circular is out.

Test format, seats and fees (2025-26)

A written paper means showing your working — recognising the right option, as in an MCQ, earns nothing here. Practise by writing complete solutions against the clock. Anyone aiming for architecture also needs separate drawing preparation for Module B.

Where else to sit alongside BUET

BUET sits on 16 January, with the Aviation and Aerospace University (5 December) and MIST (18–19 December) both earlier in December. BUP’s science and engineering faculties sit on 8 January 2027, eight days before BUET. Students drawn to ship design or ocean science should keep Bangladesh Maritime University in view as well.
