GST A Unit Admission 2026-27: The Science Test on 27 March

The science unit of the GST cluster — unit A — comes last of this year’s four tests: 27 March 2027, 11 AM to noon, a full week after the humanities, commerce and architecture papers. There is one paper lasting one hour, and every member university that admits science students through the cluster ranks them on that single score.

The 2026-27 application window, fee, minimum GPA and seat count are still unannounced — all of that arrives with the circular. Last year’s picture is clear, though: the A unit drew 166,162 applications in 2025-26, far more than either other unit, and only 30% of those who sat passed. Preparing to the known paper pattern now beats waiting for the notice.

Subject-wise marks in the A unit

This split is as widely reported by admission guides and Wikipedia; we could not check it against the cluster’s own circular, so confirm it in the 2026-27 notice. The shape is simple: physics and chemistry are fixed for everyone, and you choose where the remaining 50 marks come from.

Pick the optional pair with care. A member university may attach a subject condition to particular departments, so before dropping maths or biology, read the department rules of the universities you actually want.

Who is eligible to sit

In 2025-26 the door was open to SSC passers of 2021–2023 with HSC in 2024 or 2025, and second-time candidates were allowed. Each wrong answer cost 0.25 and the pass mark was 30 out of 100.

The most recent GPA rule we could verify is from 2024-25: at least 3.50 in each of SSC and HSC, and at least 7.50 combined. That floor may move for 2026-27, and which SSC years will be accepted alongside the HSC 2026 batch is for the circular to say.

Where an A unit score can take you

Prothom Alo counts 20 member universities this cycle; other outlets say 21, and three more may join. The A unit merit list feeds their science, engineering, life-science and agriculture-linked departments, and each university publishes its own department and seat list.

Seat totals circulate online, but we could not verify them and so do not print them. One change is known: last year architecture was a drawing test taken by A unit candidates, while this year it appears as a separate D unit.

How the A unit went last cycle

About 40,000 applicants never turned up on the day. Among those who did, seven in ten fell short of 30 marks — so the first job is to clear the pass line comfortably, and only then to chase rank.

A ten-week plan for the A unit

1. Weeks 1–3: HSC physics formulas and chemistry reactions, with twenty MCQs at the end of each chapter.
2. Weeks 4–5: fix your two optional subjects and start with their weakest chapters.
3. Weeks 6–7: past GST papers against the clock — 100 marks in one hour leaves very little time per question.
4. Weeks 8–9: work through your error log with the 0.25 penalty in mind and mark the question types where guessing is costing you.
5. Final week: the seven days after the 20 March papers are for revision and two full mock tests only.
