JnU A Unit Admission 2026-27: Science Test on 1 January, GPA 7.0

Jagannath University opens its season with the A unit — the Faculty of Science plus the Faculty of Life & Earth Science — on 1 January 2027, 10 to 11 AM, with Dhaka as the only centre. Applications run from 15 November to 10 December 2026, and only candidates with HSC 2026 and SSC 2023 or 2024 may apply.

The floor this year is a combined SSC + HSC GPA of 7.0 with 3.0 in each, down from 7.50 and 3.25. A lower bar does not mean an easier contest: more than 72,000 applied to this unit in 2025-26, one of the two largest pools at JnU.

Subject marks (2025-26 structure)

Last year the paper had 96 questions at 0.75 marks each — 72 marks in one hour. At 32 questions per subject that is under 40 seconds a question. The real decision in this unit is maths versus biology: take whichever you answer quickly and cleanly. If the 2026-27 circular changes the structure, it overrides this table.

Sources disagree on negative marking: The Daily Campus and the Business faculty dean said there was none, while BSS reported 0.25 off per wrong answer. Until this year’s circular settles it, be careful with guesses.

Seats and competition (2025-26)

The Daily Campus put the A unit at 840 seats (another report says 860). Applications stood at 65,002 by 4 December — 77 per seat — and closed at 72,474. On 840 seats that is roughly 86 applicants per place; on 860, about 84.

In practice a pass mark is only the start. Small departments such as CSE, pharmacy or genetic engineering fill from the very front of the merit list.

The department seat list comes from an admission-information aggregator, not the circular. Its rows total 840, which agrees with The Daily Campus rather than the 860 report. Check the circular before you apply.

Preparing for the A unit

1. DU’s science test is on 12 December and JnU’s A unit on 1 January — spend the three weeks between on speed MCQ only, since JnU has no written part.
2. Give numerical physics and chemistry problems their own practice block; in a 40-second-per-question paper, time is marks.
3. The 28 GPA marks are fixed before you walk in, so the whole difference between candidates is made in the 72 MCQ marks.
