The Faculty of Maritime Governance and Policy (FMGP) is how you study law at Bangladesh Maritime University: an LLB (Hons) in Maritime Law, with 40 seats in 2025-26. Science, humanities or business — any stream qualified with GPA 3.50 in SSC and in HSC. The 2026-27 circular was still unpublished on 26 September 2026; the last test took place on 30 January 2026, 10:00 to 11:30 AM.

The paper contains no law at all. Of its 100 MCQ marks, English is the largest block at 35, followed by ICT and general knowledge at 25 each and analytical ability with critical reasoning at 15. Science subject knowledge buys nothing here; language, current awareness and reasoning decide the rank.

Twenty-five ICT marks may look odd for a law faculty, yet every stream studied ICT at HSC, which makes it level ground for all applicants. In general knowledge, expect a tilt towards maritime boundaries, ports, shipping and international bodies — the university’s whole identity is built around the sea.

Who qualified to apply (2025-26)

The GPA bar is lower than the science faculties’, but the all-subjects-at-B condition is strict: a single C, even in an optional subject, rules the application out.

LLB Maritime Law: seats and cost (2025-26)

What separates it from a general LLB is the specialism: the legal framework of shipping, ports, maritime boundaries and sea trade sits at the centre. It is a distinct door for anyone who wants legal practice alongside work with shipping lines, port authorities or international maritime affairs.

Last cycle’s competition

For FMGP’s 40 seats in 2025-26, ranks 1 to 240 were invited to pre-register — six per seat. All three streams compete in one list, so a humanities student with sharp English is ranked directly against a science student at home in ICT.

The only published university-level picture is from 2024-25: about 18,000 applications for 200 seats. No faculty-level breakdown is released.

Preparing for FMGP: four sections, four tactics

1. English (35): reading comprehension, word meaning and sentence correction — read one English-language editorial a day and note every unfamiliar word.
2. General knowledge (25): Bangladesh’s maritime boundary, its main ports, international organisations and current events, weighted to the six months before the test.
3. ICT (25): definitions, number systems and networking from the HSC book — memory-driven, so marks come quickly.
4. Analytical (15): syllogisms, sequences and logic puzzles; without practice each one eats time, so master this section early.
