JU B Unit Admission 2026-27: The Social Sciences Faculty

JU's B unit is the way into six departments of the Faculty of Social Sciences — Economics, Geography & Environment, Government & Politics, Anthropology, Urban & Regional Planning, and Public Administration. The 2026-27 test is in January 2027 on the Savar campus; the exact day is not out yet.
What marks this unit out is 20 marks of general maths for everyone — humanities candidates included. In 2025-26, 20,583 applied for 326 places, about 63 per seat, among the lighter ratios of JU's general units.

What the paper weighs
General maths means SSC-level work — percentages, ratios, algebra, geometry. Many humanities students drop maths after Class 10, so these 20 marks open the widest gaps in the merit list. Science students face the opposite risk: neglecting Bangla and general knowledge.

Departments and seats (as reported)
Law sat in the B unit as late as 2023-24; by 2025-26 it had moved to unit C, so an older guidebook listing law under B is out of date. Before ranking departments, look at each one’s syllabus on the university website.

GPA conditions
In 2025-26 science students needed a combined 8.50 and humanities or business students 7.50, with at least 3.50 in each of SSC and HSC for everyone — so all three streams could sit. The 2026-27 conditions follow the Academic Council’s decision.
A six-week plan
- Weeks 1–2: work back through the SSC general maths book, 25 problems a day.
- Weeks 3–4: Bangla grammar and English error-spotting, two mixed sets daily.
- Weeks 5–6: current affairs and full 55-minute mocks scored with negative marking.
