CUET Group B Admission 2026-27: Architecture, 700 Marks and Freehand Drawing

Architecture at CUET means Group B. The 2026-27 test is tentatively on 23 January 2027, and Group B candidates follow Group A’s 500-mark paper with a 200-mark freehand drawing test — 700 in total (Shiksha Sangbad, 19 September 2026). Eligibility is waiting on Academic Council approval.

Last cycle both parts ran on one morning: the MCQ from 10:30 to 12:30 on 17 January 2026, then after a fifteen-minute break the drawing from 12:45 to 1:45. The Group B fee was Tk 1,400, Tk 200 more than Group A.

How the 700 marks divide

Drawing is about 29% of the total — not the half some other architecture tests give it, but enough that a candidate a few marks behind on the Group A paper can recover through a strong sketch. Last cycle the drawing lasted just one hour, so what is really being judged is the ability to plan and draw quickly.

Eligibility: what applies to Group B

In 2025-26 Group B followed CUET’s general academic rules: SSC 2022/2023 with GPA 4.0, HSC in 2025 only, a combined 14.00 grade points in HSC maths, physics and chemistry, and at least a B in English. O/A-level candidates needed an A in maths, physics and chemistry.

Architecture hopefuls were part of the same 16,000-person shortlist, so however good your drawing, you only reach it if your HSC science and English grades clear the cut first.

The department and its seats

Group B leads to CUET’s architecture department. The university has 931 seats across 12 departments; architecture’s own number is not in the sources we verified, so it is left out. Urban and Regional Planning is design-adjacent, but for 2026-27 it sits in Group A, with no drawing test.

The competitive picture

The 2025-26 shortlist of 16,000 covered all groups; how many of them sat Group B was not published. Check in the new circular whether a Group B candidate is also ranked on the Group A merit list — that decides whether missing architecture still leaves an engineering place open.

In the same season MIST’s Unit B tests on 19 December 2026, more than a month ahead of CUET. Sitting both turns the MIST drawing session into a full rehearsal for CUET’s.

Training for a one-hour drawing test

1. Draw against the clock: finish every exercise in exactly 60 minutes — ten to plan the composition, the last ten for shading and finish.
2. Take subjects from the landscape around you — hills, rivers, markets, a harbour — which helps with questions asking for a scene from memory.
3. Human figures and proportion: people placed in a scene show a sense of scale, and examiners notice.
4. Rehearse the fifteen-minute switch from MCQ to drawing — keeping a steady hand after two hours of problem-solving is a separate skill.
5. Spend the rest on Group A subjects: 500 marks is still most of the total.
