MIST Unit C Admission 2026-27: Maths & Data Science, Chemistry & Nanoscience

MIST’s newest unit, Unit C, tests on the morning of 18 December 2026 for 2026-27 — one day before Units A and B (Ajker Patrika, 21 August 2026). It admits to two programmes: the BSc in Mathematics and Data Science and the BSc in Chemistry and Nanoscience. In 2025-26 a GPA of 3.5 in SSC and in HSC was enough to apply.

The unit first ran in the 2025-26 cycle on a timetable separate from engineering: applications 5–19 January 2026, the test on 31 January 2026, a Tk 1,000 fee. This year it moves alongside the engineering units, so Unit A candidates can sit it in the same fortnight.

Unit C’s paper and merit formula

Eighty MCQ marks with a pass line of 32 — below 40% you do not reach the merit list at all. The subject split appears only in admission guides; the MIST portal lists Units A, B and C, but we could not verify this breakdown there. If it is right, maths and chemistry weigh most at 25 each, matching the two programmes on offer.

Who is eligible

For 2025-26 Unit C asked for GPA 3.5 in each of SSC and HSC — a much wider door than the engineering units’ SSC 4.0 and strict subject minimums. The 2026-27 conditions will come with the new circular.

Twenty merit marks come straight from results (SSC 10, HSC 10), so a strong GPA counts for more relative to the paper here: twenty beside an eighty-mark test is a large slice.

The two programmes

As the names suggest, both are applied variants of a conventional maths or chemistry honours degree. We could not verify the seat numbers, so none are printed.

The first cycle, and what it says about competition

2025-26 was Unit C’s first year, so there are no older numbers to compare and no applicant total published in a form we could verify. That first test fell at the end of January, after many students had already sat other admission tests.

The December slot could change that: engineering candidates can take C and then A on consecutive days, which is likely to make the field denser than in the first year.

Preparing for Unit C

1. Maths: algebra, calculus, statistics and probability — with a data science programme behind it, do not treat probability lightly.
2. Chemistry: organic chemistry, bonding and quantitative work; fast mole calculations are a big edge in MCQs.
3. Physics and English: thirty marks together — a solid refresh of core formulae and grammar is enough; don’t overspend time here.
4. Secure the pass mark of 32 first: sure answers before doubtful ones.
5. If you sit Unit A too, alternate mock formats in the final week — C’s MCQ against A’s long three-hour paper.
