JU A Unit Admission 2026-27: Maths, Physics and Chemistry

Jahangirnagar University's A unit covers the Faculty of Mathematical & Physical Sciences and the Institute of Information Technology (IIT). JU plans to start its 2026-27 tests on 17 January 2027, but the Academic Council has not yet fixed the A unit's day. Tests are on the Savar campus.

Last year 66 of the 80 marks came from maths, physics and chemistry — 22 apiece — with Bangla and English worth just 3 each. In 2025-26, 60,351 candidates applied for 426 places, about 142 per seat.

Marks by subject

There is no biology here at all, and ICT’s 8 marks outweigh the 6 for both languages together. Each wrong answer costs 0.20 and the paper runs 55 minutes, under a minute a question — getting stuck in a long calculation is the biggest risk.

GPA and who can sit

In 2025-26 the A unit was open to science students only, with a combined SSC and HSC GPA of 8.50 and at least 4.00 in each. SSC had to be 2022 or later and HSC 2024 or 2025. Whether any marks come from GPA, we could not confirm.

Departments and seats (as reported)

This department list comes from an admissions aggregator, not a university document. It adds up to the 426 total, but treat it as indicative. Match each department’s seats against the university’s own list before filling in preferences.

Three equal subjects — a plan

1. Split the week evenly between maths, physics and chemistry — each is worth 22, so none can wait.
2. Finish ICT’s number systems, logic gates and programming basics in two weeks — 8 cheap marks.
3. Sit 80-question mocks in 55 minutes; take the sure questions first, then return.
4. If you also want unit D, biology needs its own preparation — A does not test it.
