CU B1 Sub-unit 2026-27: Drama, Music and Fine Arts

CU's B1 sub-unit serves three performing- and visual-arts departments: drama, music and fine arts. The 2026-27 test is on 3 February 2027 and runs only on CU's main campus — there is no Dhaka or Rajshahi centre. Applications follow the general window, 15 November to 10 December 2026.

The crowd is thin but the test is different. In 2025-26 there were 1,645 applications for 135 places, only about 12 per seat — the lowest ratio of CU’s seven units. A practical test sits alongside the written part, though, and drawing, singing or acting cannot be crammed overnight.

Seats in the three departments

Fine arts, at 60 places, nearly equals the other two departments combined. Music has the fewest, 30, so for a singer or instrumentalist the practical is where the place is won. Ask the department after admission where classes are held, since arrangements can differ from the main faculty buildings.

The practical: what is known and what is not

A practical component was part of the B1 assessment in 2025-26; that much is confirmed. How marks are split between the written and practical parts, and what each department asks you to do, we could not find in any reliable report. So no figures are given here — go by the circular and the admit-card instructions.

CU's general 2025-26 frame was a 100-mark MCQ in one hour, −0.25 per wrong answer and 40 to pass. The fee was BDT 1,000 for each unit or sub-unit, so sitting both B and B1 meant paying twice.

Who can sit, and where

In 2025-26 students with SSC 2022/2023 and HSC 2024/2025 could apply. A separate GPA condition for B1 is not in the sources we verified — check the circular. Last year all three sub-units were tested on the main campus only, and for B1 the 2026-27 notice says the same again.

Preparing before you travel to campus

1. Fine arts: daily timed pencil studies from life or still objects.
2. Music: have one Rabindra or Nazrul song and one song of your choice note-perfect; revise basic rhythm and scale theory.
3. Drama: learn a short monologue or recitation and the key names of Bangla theatre history.
4. B (5 February) and B2 (4 February) are close by; if you want all three in one trip, book somewhere to stay early.
